The Coral Grand Splashional – A Project coordinated by Aquatic Jetpacks

The Coral Grand Splashional In December 2016 Aquatic Jetpacks were commissioned by Z-PR to produce a Flyboard Stunt for Coral’s 2017 ‘I love Grand National’ Campaign The idea for the stunt was on the back of the Jetski Grand National which was produced in 2013 for Coral’s ‘How do you pick yours?’ campaign. Click Here to see the video on youtube. Working alongside Z-PR, during several months of planning, site visits and meetings, The Aquatic Jetpacks team were able to overcome the challenges associated with this type of project and achieve a fantastic result for the client. Location : In terms of location whilst the client was initially keen to try and film the project on the River Mersey in a similar style to the previous Jetski Grand National, safety concerns and suitability for operating a flyboard in such strong tidal waters meant that an alternate location had to be sourced. The Aquatic Jetpacks team hit the jackpot by discovering the Liverpool Watersports Centre which was based in Queens Dock. This meant that the client would still have the famous Liverpool Skyline in the back drop and Aquatic Jetpacks could create a safe operating environment for multiple Flyboarders. Costumes and Props : Once a location had been organised it was now down to get the Horses Heads and costumes made. Unlike the Jetski project these props and costumes would need to be made robustly enough to withstand the strong forces involved whilst Flyboarding. At first it was in doubt whether a Horses Head could be made to withstand the impact of a high dolphin dive on a Flyboard, but...

Winter Flyboard Maintenance and Servicing

2014 Flyboard Legend Servicing Winter is a great time to give your Flyboard some TLC ready for the next fun packed summer season. Here at Aquatic Jetpacks we thought we’d run through some important Flyboard maintenance areas to make sure you’re getting the most out of your kit. Bearings Over time bearings will lose their lubrication and start to rub causing them to shrink in size, allow more water to leak out of the joint, and potentially even seize up with sand or rust build up around them. Taking apart a 2014 Zapata Racing Flyboard happens in 3 stages: 1. Remove Bindings 2. Release the 4 allen key screws securing the metalwork to the top of the board 3. Remove the C-clips within both swivel joints A useful schematic diagram can be found below for both the ‘Y Connector’ and ‘Hose Bearing’ to give you a more detailed idea of how it all fits together. These images can also be found in the User Manual. Once the C-clips have been removed from within the swivel joint, the nozzle is then able to be disconnected (Top Tip : watch out as at this point the ball bearing will potentially fly everywhere!). As you can see in image A, the C-clip has deteriorated causing rust to build up on the interior of the nozzle and the bearing stop ring (please note we do operate our Flyboard equipment in salt water and wash thoroughly with fresh water after every use). After all the components have been taken out (see picture A) this is the perfect time to grab a wire brush and...

Aquatic Jetpacks 2017 New Year Resolution

As we head into 2017, many of you will be trying to stick your New Year’s resolutions which were hastily made after a few too many tequila’s and games of Pie Face on New Year’s Eve. So why do we make New Year’s Resolutions in the first place? Well for the majority it is to try and change their lifestyle for the positive and a New Year happens to be a perfect time to make a start. Whilst the number one resolution on most people’s list is to lose weight and get fit, fortunately for the Aquatic Jetpacks staff our instructing jobs on the water keep us fairly active, although we are the first to admit we can add an inch or two to our waistlines through the winter months but this is quickly burnt off when the Jetskis and Jetpacks are back on the water in March. So what’s our 2017 New Year Resolution? As our sister company Jetski Safaris enters it’s tenth Season and our fourth Season of Flyboarding we have decided to start a regular blog in which we will hope to share our experience and passion about the watersports and marine industry. In this day and age that doesn’t sound like a lot but somehow it always gets put to the bottom of our jobs list, so for 2017 we want to make a change. We will look to share our knowledge and stories from 10 years in the Marine Industry and one of the first UK Flyboard companies in order to hopefully construct some interesting articles, photos and videos. These will range from Kit...

Franky Zapata creates the Flyboard Air – A real life Jetpack / Hoverboard

Franky Zapata and his team, the creators of the water based Flyboard, Hoverboard and Jetpack have taken their inventions one step further with their latest creation, The Flyboard Air. Whilst some people are doubting whether the above footage is even real we can confirm it is! Unlike the Flyboard or Hoverboard the Flyboard Air does not rely on water to be powered and therefore takes away the element of being tethered to a Jetski. This creates a truly unique human flying machine. Unfortunately Aquatic Jetpacks do not have access to a Flyboard Air yet but if you are looking for the next best thing then why not book onto one of our Flyboard Experience sessions to get the sense of Flying!!   Find out more...
